Hi sandra/everyone sorry I have more questions....
Since my digestive issues started maintaining weight has been an issue for me, in that I go through stages where I tend to be weighing in under what a young guy of my build should, (friends and family sometimes will notice) I was a little concerned about this starting the SCD diet. That said i have felt much better on the SCD diet so i am not complaining just dont want to get unhealthily thin as i have in the past.
I try to kep fit but nothing intensive and just want to know what food or meal ideas might be available to someone like me who could benefit from putting a few kg's on. I eat plenty of protien but seem to be slowly continueing to loose weight,,, which i really dont want,,, anyway thank you again for any advice, |

When, I first started on the diet I weighed 54 kg and I am 5 ft 10 in. I now way 62kg which is ideal. I exercise a lot as well. To keep your weight up there are many recipes in the book that will add pounds. Basically any recipe with yogurt in it. Protein is important as well. Best of all are the yogurt smoothies. Add an egg or two as well and lots of bananas. Also to keep your energy up it is good to replace your electrolytes with a simple electrolyte drink:
1 ltr water
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp bicarbonate soda
1 Tbs honey
Mix and keep in fridge and drink one glass a day.
Hope this helps,
Sandra |

Hi
Just thought I'd leave a few words of encouragement. Please don't think we're "know it alls" don't know how bad you've been and certain that every case is different.
My husband has had colitis for years on 20+ tabs a day before diet, and at 6'1" his weight has fluctuated from 14st when healthy to 11st at his worst. Since starting this diet 5months ago his weight initially dropped but since we have got to grips with what he can and can't have he's steadily been putting on weight. He surfs a few times a week, runs and exercises most days.
The food he's eating is giving him energy unlike the low residue diet recommended for years by the hospital. He has hated people telling him how thin he looks and as shallow as it seems obviously wants to feel and look strong, so every comment was a knock. His advice is to persevere.
I dont know if this is right but it seems to be working for him at the moment, he eats as soon as he gets up starts the day with bacon, eggs and bananas. He carries snacks, fruit and nuts around with him and the pecan toffees never last long. He will eat regularly through the day before and after exercise so not burning more than he's eating. We've found it helpful to prepare a large batch of bolognese or sri lankan curry and keep it in small portions in the freezer so its ready when he wants it. Lots of cheese, my mum loves baking the cakes.
I'm sure you'll be looking healthier and it won't be long until you put on weight again. ENJOY!! |

Great to hear this story and it is encouraging, especially to those people who are quite athletic and have found that gradually they are getting their lives back.
Just quickly in regards to alternative for honey. Aspartame in soft drinks and saccharine are legal as well. Also dates and apple sauce can be used in baking to add sweetness.
Happy Cooking,

| Good to hear. I was close to 170 pounds (I am 6 foot tall) a few months ago, during the introductory diet I dropped to 135 pounds. I am slowly back up to a little over 140 pounds. It seems to fluctuate between 140 -145 or so depending how much water I drink. I think I am having a hard time keeping hydrated. |
